Metronet private circuits are delivered using Secure IP Point to Point Radio connections.
Previously, wireless broadband services have highlighted concerns over security, largely as a result of badly implemented point to multipoint shared access systems, such as Wi-Fi "hotspots", which have been compromised through a need to permit everyone to connect on an ad-hoc basis.
The Metronet network is private and has virtually nothing in common with these types of networks. The Metronet network is completely "invisible" and cannot be discovered using industry standard 802.11x equipment.
Unlike a generic wireless (Wi-Fi) network, Metronet uses a highly secure radio connection between two distinct and known transmitters. Security of your data is further assured through Metronet's use of secure IP Radio solutions from leading edge companies specialising in Carrier grade radio hardware, including Proxim, Bridgewave and Redline.
Metronet uses proprietary radio transmission techniques to provide optimal quality of service and make the connection inherently secure; techniques that include industrial strength encryption, and frequency hopping around 80 different channels, with random changes being performed every second.
To complete the security package, access to the network is controlled by IP and Air Mac addresses. Add AES 128 & 256 full encryption and it is simply not possible for a third party to connect to the network.
